Finding the right colour scheme and basing...
This week feels like a bit of a turning point.
After what feels like 20+ attempts at getting the look right, I think I’ve finally landed on something I’m happy with — both in terms of the basing and the goblins themselves.
First proper basing attempt
This is my first real go at a desert base for the army.
I wanted something that felt natural without being too busy — just enough variation to stop it looking flat. A mix of sand, stones, and a few tufts seems to do the job.
Pretty happy with how this has turned out, especially how the darker rocks break things up.
Test models… take 24 and 25
These two are probably attempts number 24 and 25 at getting a scheme I actually like.
Earlier versions weren’t bad, but I just wasn’t getting enough contrast — everything felt a bit flat once it was on the table.
I think these finally work:
Stronger contrast
Colours feel more intentional
Details read much better at arm’s length
Still things to improve, but this feels like a solid direction.
To repaint… or not?
Now comes the question.
Do I go back and repaint earlier models?
At the moment I’m leaning towards no — using the older ones as they are and pushing forward with this scheme instead. Feels like the better way to actually get an army finished.
Next up...
Next step is to try this across a full unit and see how it looks ranked up.
That’s usually where things either come together… or fall apart.
